Writing
Why can't I paste, dictate or swipe-type?
Only typing counts, so your minutes are minutes you actually wrote. Paste, drag and drop, dictation, swipe typing, autocorrect suggestions and Writing Tools are turned off on purpose. Copying out of a page still works.
Why did the timer stop?
The clock only runs while you type. After four seconds without a keystroke it waits until you start again.
When does a new day start?
At 4:00 in the morning on each device's own clock, so writing after midnight still counts for the evening before. Earlier days become read-only.
Can I edit a past day?
No. Past days are kept exactly as you left them. You can read them in the calendar and export them.
Backup and sync
How do I get my writing onto a new device?
Install the app, choose "Restore my writing", sign in with the same email and unlock with your passphrase or recovery key.
I forgot my passphrase.
Unlock with your recovery key instead. If a device is still unlocked, you can set a new passphrase and recovery key from its Settings. If both are lost and no device is unlocked, the backup can't be opened by anyone, including us. Writing that is still on a device is unaffected.
The same day was written on two devices.
Nothing is lost. The app marks the day for review and lets you keep either version or combine both.
Does sync cost anything?
The apps are free, with every writing feature. Sync and backup are an optional one-time purchase of $14.99, not a subscription, and cover every Mac and iPhone you sign in on with the same email. Without it, your writing stays on your device and you can export it any time.
I bought sync but the app asks again.
Make sure you're signed in with the email you bought it on. On iPhone, tap Restore Purchase. On the Mac, choose Check Again in Settings.
How do I get a refund?
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. For a purchase on the Mac, email us. After a refund, backed-up writing can still be restored, but new writing stops uploading.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings, then Delete Cloud Backup. This deletes your account and every encrypted copy on our server. Writing on your devices stays. See the privacy policy for details.
Exporting
Settings, then Export All Writing as Markdown, saves each day as its own file. It works with or without backup.
